Tobi Amusan: With More Support, Nigerian Athletes Will Dominate The World!

Says Nigerian athletics is back to glory days

African, Commonwealth and World 100m hurdles champion Tobiloba Amusan says Nigeria will need dominate athletics at the world level if the athletes can get the necessary support required.

Amusan, who set a Games record to successfully defend her sprint hurdles title at the Commonwealth Games that ended Monday in Birmingham, United Kingdom was also a member of the 4x100m relay team that set a new 42.10 seconds African record to win the gold, the first in the event since 1994.

The 25 year old athlete who last month ran 12.12 seconds to make history as the first Nigerian athlete to set a world record enroute to her historic gold in the 100m hurdles says she is proud of the relay team at the Commonwealth Games.

‘Really proud of these young ladies; Grace Nwokocha, Rosemary Chukwuma, Favour Ofili and Joy Udo-Gabriel.

‘They set an African Record at the World Champs and here at the just concluded Commonwealth Games, I joined the team to further break the record, clocking 42.10s,’ wrote Amusan on her Facebook page.

The 2021 Diamond League trophy winner believes track and field is back on track again and calls for support to enable them (the athletes) soar higher than they are doing now and dominate the world.

‘Nigerian Athletics is BACK!!! With more support we will dominate the World,’ added Amusan who is on course to retain her Diamond League trophy next month in Zurich, Switzerland.
