Tottenham Hotspur secured a rare Premier League victory at Stamford Bridge, beating Chelsea 2-0 on Saturday to claim only their second win away to their London rivals in the competition.

An own goal from Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders broke the deadlock with 13 minutes remaining before Mathys Tel struck late to seal a memorable victory for Spurs.

The result marked Tottenham’s first Premier League win at Stamford Bridge since their 3-1 triumph in 2018, ending a long wait for success at Chelsea’s home ground.

Chelsea’s afternoon worsened when Cole Palmer was sent off after receiving two yellow cards, leaving the hosts with little time to respond as Tottenham closed out the contest.

Tel was delighted with the performance and described his goal as a special moment in his Tottenham career.

‘It is probably my best moment in a Spurs shirt because of the win. We created a lot of chances today. We worked all together. The goal is something special for me. We have to keep pushing,’ he said.

The forward also highlighted the significance of winning at a ground where Tottenham had repeatedly struggled.

‘It is very special. We have come here a lot of times and we haven’t got a win. Today we made it all together and we showed great mentality. I am very happy about it. We have to enjoy it,’ Tel added.

Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole praised Tottenham’s approach, saying the visitors deserved their victory after playing with aggression and attacking intent.

‘It was well deserved for Spurs. They were brave and aggressive and played on the front foot. The boys who had question marks over them stepped up tonight,’ Cole said.

He added that Chelsea still had considerable work to do despite their efforts.

Former Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle also hailed the visitors’ display, saying they had been the better side throughout the match.

‘It very much is a memorable day for Spurs. From the first minute to the last minute they were the better team. They had a hunger that I’ve not seen for a while. This was a big result for them,’ Hoddle said.
