University of Ilorin Invests NFF’s Ikpeme as Ambassador

The University of Ilorin has honoured the Deputy General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, MON, with an investiture as an ambassador of the institution.

The ceremony, held on Monday at the university auditorium, recognised Ikpeme’s contributions to projecting and promoting the image of the institution through his academic engagements and public presentations.

Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN, commended Ikpeme for his continued representation of the institution in a positive light.

‘Through your academic engagements and public presentations, you have consistently portrayed the university in a most favourable light, for which we are deeply appreciative,’ Egbewole said.

Ikpeme, who obtained his first degree from the University of Ilorin in 1986, recently published Perspectives on Sports Development in Nigeria: Challenges and Ways Forward, a book examining the challenges confronting sports development in the country and possible solutions.

The former university lecturer said he wrote the book out of what he described as a ‘compelling responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the discourse on sports development in our nation.’

An experienced academic and sports administrator, Ikpeme lectured at the University of Calabar before serving as Sole Administrator of the Cross River State Sports Council. He joined the Nigeria Football Federation as Deputy Secretary General (Technical) in 2007 and became Deputy General Secretary in March 2015.
