Usoro, Ofili set to light up Red Raider Open
Nigerian top track and field stars Ruth Usoro and Favour Ofili will headline this evening’s Red Raider Open at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas.
While Usoro will be competing in the long jump event, Ofili will race once again in the 60m.
Both athletes recorded impressive performances last weekend with Usoro setting a new Nigeria indoor record in the triple jump while Ofili ran a new 7.25 seconds personal best in her first race over the 60m distance.
Usoro’s 14.76m mark is not only a new Nigeria record but also a new Texas Tech University record. It also became a new NCAA mark which was held by Georgia’s Keturah Orji (2018).
The mark has also qualified her to compete at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA this July.
Usoro also went on to place first in the long jump.
Her long jump mark of 6.48m leads the Big 12 Conference and is second in the NCAA, only behind Florida’s Jasmine Moore’s mark of 6.58m.
Meanwhile, Usoro has been named named the Big 12 Female Athlete of the Week, the league announced Thursday afternoon.
The weekly honor was also shared with Kansas’ Rylee Anderson.
