Victor Osimhen pays tribute to Gernot Rohr

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has thanked former gaffer Gernot Rohr.

Rohr was fired on Sunday by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), after pressure by football stakeholders in the country in the wake of the team’s underwhelming performances during the group stage of qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup.

Osimhen, who was handed his Super Eagles debut in June 2017 by the German was Nigeria’s top scorer during the qualifiers with four goals.

The 22-year-old had defended the team’s performance at the conclusion of the group matches, insisting after the Eagles picked a ticket to the playoffs that result was better than performance.

In a twitter post on Tuesday, the former Lille forward posted the picture of the Franco-German and himself together and thanked him.
“Thank you for everything coach and I wish you all the best,” he wrote.

It is not yet certain if Osimhen will play for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations starting on January 9 after sustaining a scary check bone fracture while playing for Napoli in the Serie A last month against Inter Milan.
