Watford owner Gino Pozzo: We rejected the chance to sign Osimhen

Watford owner Gino Pozzo says his club rejected the chance to sign Victor Osimhen while the striker was at Charleroi.

Osimhen, 24, has just enjoyed his most successful individual campaign, with the striker netting 31 goals across all competitions and helping Napoli secure their first Serie A title in 33 years.

He also ended the Serie A season as the top scorer with his 26 goals and the all-time African top scorer.

The Nigeria international joined Napoli in 2020 from Lille but before then, the French side signed him from Charleroi.

Pozzo, 58, said: ‘We actually missed Osimhen, they (Charleroi) offered him to us and we didn’t take it.’

Odion Ighalo, Isaac Success, William Troost-Ekong and Emmanuel Dennis are among Nigerian players who have played for Watford while Samuel Kalu and goalkeeper Maduka Okoye are still with the club.
