‘We came here to succeed, we didn’t come here to participate,’ says Rivers Hoopers’ Eke

Rivers Hoopers ended the first round of the Sahara Conference of the 2024 Basketball Africa League undefeated after blowing out Tunisian side, U.S. Monastir 84-63 on Tuesday in Dakar with Devine Eke saying their third win in as many games was ‘a collective effort’.

‘We came here to succeed, we didn’t come here to participate,’ he said and when asked about the key factor that saw them sink the Tunisians, he said: Boxing-out, rebounding and defending the pick-and-roll rightly. They are a good pick-and-roll team, that was our main goal defensively today.’

The game was dominated by Rivers Hoopers from the jump-ball to the final buzzer.

Kelvin Amayo terrorized US Monastir’s defense with his scoring prowess from almost every corner of the floor to finish with a game-high of 27 points.

Amayo’s 10-for-23 shooting included a 6-for-17 form behind arc.

Perry shot 4-for-7 from long-range to finish with 19 points, while Eke and Peter Olisemeka contributed 16 and 13 points, respectively.

Rivers Hoopers are the only side to finish their first round of the 2024 Sahara Conference without a defeat.
