‘We Must Keep Fighting!’: Oduntan Reacts To Flamingos’ Historic DPR Korea Win

Nigeria captain Azeezat Oduntan has expressed pride in her teammates following the Flamingos’ stunning 3-1 victory over two-time defending champions DPR Korea at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, but insists the team must remain focused on the challenges ahead.
The Flamingos produced an outstanding performance at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat on Friday, with Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, Oluebube Umejiaku and Kanyinsola Yusuf scoring to secure Nigeria’s place in the Round of 16.
Oduntan praised the determination and fighting spirit of her teammates, describing the victory as a collective achievement.
“I’m super proud of my team-mates because they all came out and chose to play. We have to keep going and keep fighting,” the Nigerian captain told FIFA.
“I feel excited but we are not there yet because we just qualified for the next round.”
Adegbuyi opened the scoring in the 15th minute before Umejiaku doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 38th minute.
Yusuf, who was named Player of the Match, added a spectacular free-kick in the 56th minute before Yu Jong-hyang converted an 82nd-minute penalty for DPR Korea.
The victory completed a remarkable recovery for the Flamingos, who began their campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Poland before bouncing back to beat Puerto Rico 2-0.
Having secured their place in the knockout stage, Oduntan and her teammates will now look to carry their momentum into the Round of 16 as they continue their pursuit of World Cup glory.
