Wilfred Ndidi Recovers From Harmstring Trouble, Gives Eagles AFCON Boost
Nigerian international midfielder Wilfred Ndidi returned to action for Leicester City against Liverpool in a Premier League matchday 19 fixture at the King Power stadium on Tuesday night after sitting out the Foxes’ 6-3 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad stadium on Boxing Day.
The 25 year was diagnosed with a tight harmstring trouble and Leicester City manager Brenda Rodgers revealed at his pre-match press conference the Nigerian may likely return against Liverpool.
‘We couldn’t risk Ndidi against Man City, he had harmstring issues so we had to put him on the bench, but we knew we weren’t really going to be able to use him. It was too big a risk.
”Ndidi has played a lot of football for us and hasn’t had chance to rest. His harmstring was tight,’ Rodgers at the pre-match presser and will be delighted his midfield supremo is back as the Foxes aim to bounce back after losing at the Etihad on Sunday.
The game is his 159th appearance since he switched RC Genk of Belgium for Leicester City in January 2017. It was also his ninth game against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
Ndidi’s return to action will be a big boost for the Super Eagles who begin preparations for the 33rd Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday in Abuja.
The midfielder is one of the 28 players caretaker manager Austin Eguavoen has liste for the competition which starts on January 9 while Nigeria will play her opening group game against Egypt two days later at the 30,000 capacity Stade Roumdé Adjia in Garoua, Cameroon.
