World Athletics Relays: Team Nigeria departs in batches, gets two opportunities to secure Paris Olympics tickets in Bahamas

Team Nigeria athletes to the 2024 World Athletics Relays holding this weekend in Nassau, Bahamas departed Abuja in batches Wednesday to fight for five Paris Olympics relay tickets.

The athletes based in the USA will likely depart Thursday for the two-day event which serves as the main qualifier for the Olympics.

Fourteen of the 16 places in the relay fields for the Paris Olympic Games will be filled at this event, with the remaining two teams to be identified from the performance list during the qualification window.

Nigeria will get two opportunities to secure the ticket for each of the five relay events.

Team Nigeria relay teams can either qualify on the first day of competition if they finish among the first two in each of the four heats or wait for the second day when all the teams who missed automatic qualification will be pooled together to run again where the best six teams (top two in three heats) will join the eight that secured qualification on the first day of competition.

The final for each event will only determine who emerges winners and the distribution of the prize money on offer.
