Yehualaw, Moseti, Getachew and Kiplimo headline Platinum label TCN Amsterdam Marathon elite cast

Ethiopian duo of Yalemzerf Yehualaw and Tsegaye Getachew and Kenyans, Winfridah Moraa Moseti and Philemon Kiplimo geadline the cast of elite athletes confirmed for Sunday’s Platinum label TCN Amsterdam Marathon.

Yehualaw, 25, who was fifth at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary is the fastest woman registered for the race with the 2:17:23 she ran at the Hamburg marathon in 2022.

Winner of the of the TCS London Marathon winner (2:17:26), Yehualaw, who has run 2:23:26 this year will be challenged for the title by Kenya’s Winfridah Moraa Moseti who is three years older and holds a personal best of 2:18:25 achieved this year at the Hamburg marathon.

The trio of Selly Chepyego of Kenya who holds a 2:20:03 personal best achieved in coming second at the Zurich Marato Barcelona in Barcelona last year, Ethiopian duo of Haven Hailu (2:20:19 PB) and Enatnesh Tirusew (2:20:48 PB) as well as Bahrain’s Desi Jisa who ran 2:20:47 to finish second at the Ooredoo Doha Marathon in Doha in January 2023 and holds a personal season’s best of 2:22:19 to finish second at the Seoul marathon in March are also strong contenders to finish first.

For the men, another Ethiopian, Getachew will be the athlete to beat.

The 27-year-old is coming to reclaim the title he won in 2022, running a 2:04:49 lifetime best.
Getachew who ran 2:05:25 to finish third at the Tokyo marathon last year holds a personal season’s best time of 2:06:25 which he ran on his return trip to the Tokyo Marathon in March to finish fifth.

Getachew may be the fastest man in the race with his 2:04:49 personal best but Kenya’s Philemon Kiplimo is faster this year after running 2:05:37 at the Hamburg marathon in April.

Kiplimo is however the second fastest ever among the participants with the 2:04:56 personal best he ran to finish eighth at the Berlin marathon in 2023.

Another athlete who has broken 2:05 is Ethiopian, Bazezew Asmare who ran 2:04:57 to finish third at the TCS Amsterdam Marathon two years ago. This year, Asmare holds a personal season’s best of 2:06:51 he ran at the BMW Berlin Marathon last September.

Also in contention is Kenyan duo of Justus Kangogo (2:05:57 pb) who holds a season’s best of 2:05:57 and Rhonzas Kilimo who holds a lifetime and personal season’s best of 2:06:09 he ran to place second at the Seoul marathon in March.

The TCS Amsterdam Marathon is a World Athletics Platinum Label Road Race that for years has had one of the fastest courses in the world. In the ranking of fastest marathon cities, Amsterdam is in fourth place.
