13th African Games: Can Olajide and Eyakpobeyan upset Bass in battle for women’s 100m gold?

This is the question Nigerians are eagerly waiting to see answered when the final of the women’s 100m holds Tuesday evening.

Bass is the biggest African sprinter competing in Accra at the moment and she is bookmakers favourite to turn the silver medal she won five years ago behind
Marie Jose Ta Lou at the 12th edition of the Games to gold this time around.

A semifinalist at the World Athletics Championships last year and who has competed in the Wanda Diamond League, a World Athletics one day meeting series
reserved for some of the best athletes in the world, Bass, on paper, looks home and dry.

The Nigerian duo of Olajide and Eyakpobeyan will need to prove their growing status and that they are impatient to get to the top of the sprint.

This is an event Nigeria has won eight out of the 12 times it has been held and the country has not won it since Oludamola Osayomi claimed the gold in 2011.

Olajide and Eyakpobeyan will definitely need to run a new lifetime best and possibly go under 11.10 seconds to stand a chance.
