2022-23 Golden Shoe Race: Osimhen drops to third as Haaland extends lead

Victor Osimhen has dropped to third behind Erling Haaland and Harry Kane in the race for the 2022/23 European Golden Shoe award after the Nigerian failed to score for the second straight Serie A game.

The Golden Shoe award is given to the player, especially in Europe’s top five leagues ( Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1) who scores the most goal in a season.

The Nigerian has scored 19 goals in 21 league games so far this season prior to this weekend’s games and second behind runaway leader, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

With Tottenham Hotspurs’ Harry Kane scoring a brace in the 3-1 defeat of Nothingham Forest Saturday evening to take his total haul to 20 goals for the season, the England captain has moved a step ahead of the Nigerian and is now second behind Haaland.

Haaland scored his 28th goal of the season to increase his points haul to 56, 16 ahead of Kane who has scored 20 times with Osimhen 18 points behind the Norwegian in third.

Osimhen has been inspirational for Napoli so far this season as he spearheads the march to their first Scudetto title in 33 years.

The 24-year-old provided an assist as Napoli defeated Atalanta to extend their lead at the top of the Serie A table to 18 points.
