2024 World Indoor Championships: Ese Brume blow as disorganized Nigeria set to return empty handed
Ese Brume has pulled out of the women’s long jump final scheduled to hold Sunday evening, the third and final day of the 2024 World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.
Brume’s name was conspicuously missing in the start list for the event released Saturday evening by World Athletics. The 27 year old is seen as the only realistic hope of Nigeria getting to the podium at the championships like she did two years ago in Belgrade, Serbia.
With Brume’s confirmed no show, attention will now shift to Tonobok Okowa and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, that he heads to explain why Nigerian athletes will report at the championships without a coach and/or an accompanying official. The embattled Okowa who has come under fire from not less than five members of the AFN board and several Congress members over allegations of misappropriation and diversion of the Premium Trust Bank sponsorship money by the board will also explain to Nigerians why the athletes in Glasgow are not provided with competition attires.
Shot Putter, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi confirmed the embarrassing development in an interview with Making of Champions. The 31 year old who had the logo on his vest taped, has pleaded that the AFN gets its acts together before the Olympics as he and his fellow athletes would not like to have their vests taped or washed after every round of competition.
