$50,000 top prize on offer at Abuja International Marathon

Over 10,000 participants set to compete,race starts 6am Saturday

All roads will lead to the City Gate of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) where the Abuja International Marathon will take off with over 10,000 participants expected to file out for the historic race which is the first of its kind in Abuja.

At the press conference held on Friday to herald the race, it was revealed that 32 foreign athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda and Bahrain were already on the ground to fight for the $50,000 prices on offer for the first men and women finishers.

Over 100 Nigerian elite athletes are also set to give a good account of themselves in the race which begins at 6 am.

Some of the dignitaries at the press conference held at the Exhibition Pavilion of the Department of Arts and Culture, Social Development Secretariat in Abuja included Mr Lucas Istifanus, Director of Sports, FCT and Mrs Grace Awe, Director, Department of Arts and Culture, FCT.

The Abuja international marathon is one of the 17 races in Nigeria whose courses have been certified by World Athletics.
