2022/23 Serie A Top Scorer Race: Osimhen goes seven goals clear

Victor Osimhen has moved seven goals clear in the race to become the highest goal scorer in the ongoing 2022/23 Serie A season.

The Nigerian scored twice in his club’s 4-0 drubbing of Torino on Sunday to increase his total goal haul this season to 21 goals in 23 appearances, seven more than second placed Inter Milan’s Argentine forward, Lautaro Martinez who has played four games more.

The goals by the Nigerian have ensured he moved clear of his compatriot, Simy Nwankwo as the top scoring Nigerian in a single Serie A season.

He also moved level with Cameroun legend, Samuel Eto’o as the top scoring African in a single Serie A seson and could end up as the first African to be crowned to scorer in the Italian top-flight league.
Meanwhile the Nigerian has thanked Napoli fans for their ‘creative ways of showing love for me.’

The last few weeks have seen everything from cakes made in Osimhen’s image to dogs dressed up as the centre-forward, which he published on his Instagram account.

“I think everyone has been creative with the way they tried to show their support and love for me. The latest one that really blew my mind with a dog wearing a mask and I think he had pasta on his head!

“The Nigerian fans are supportive too, I am really happy to put a smile on their faces and I want to keep this momentum going.”
