Kipyegon still focused on breaking the 1500m world record, ready for Golden Gala Diamond League

Two time Olympics and World 1500m champion, Faith Kipyegon is itching to break the World record in her specialty as she returns to the Diamond League stage
at the Golden Gala in Florence, Italy on Friday evening.

The 29 year old started her journey to retain her Diamond League crown in Doha early last month, running 3:58.57 to win what remains her only race on the
track so far this outdoor season.

The Kenyan is returning to Florence for the second time and hopes she will get a win this time after running 3:53.91 to come second behind Siffa Hassan in an
exciting race in 2021.

Kipyegon says at the pre-race press conference she is delighted to be back in Florence and hopes for a ‘fine race’.

‘I am glad to be in Florence for the second time. I ran 3;53 two years ago on my first visit. On Friday everything is possible. I am looking forward to a
fine race,’ she said.

The Kenyan middle distance runner is still aiming for the 3:50.07 world record Ethiopia’s Genzebe Dibaba ran in Monaco in July 2015.

Kipyegon ran 3:50.37 to go agonisingly close last year at the Stade Louis 11, the same arena where where Genzebe set it seven years earlier but the Kenyan
says she has not giving up on it.

‘The world record is still in my heart and on my mind and I hope this year will be a better one for me,’ she said.
