AS Roma Vs Bayer Leverkusen: Victor Boniface resumes chase for Obafemi Martins’ Europa League goals record

After failing to score in his side, Bayer Leverkusen’s 1-1 draw against West Ham at the London stadium last month, Victor Boniface will be looking to resume his goal scoring duty in the Europa League when his side visits the Stadio Olimpico to face Serie A side, AS Roma in the first leg of their semifinal tie.

Boniface has scored five times in seven appearances in the competition this season, one shy of the six he netted last season which made him joint top scorer with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.

The Nigerian may not be dreaming of catching Marseille’s centre forward, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who has netted five times this season and is still in the competition but the Leverkusen star will feel he can outscore Obafemi Martins to become the top scoring Nigerian in the Europa League.

Martins scored 13 goals in 27 games for five different clubs across five seasons while Boniface has scored 11 times for two clubs in just two seasons.

A brace on Thursday night will make Boniface joint Nigerian top scorer in competition and will have two more opportuinities especially if his unbeaten side makes it to the final of the competition.
