Nigerian Football Mourns Passing of Former NFF Chief Ibrahim Galadima
Nigeria’s football community is mourning the death of former Nigeria Football Association (NFA) President Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 74 after a protracted illness.
Galadima, one of the country’s most respected sports administrators, served as NFA Chairman between 2002 and 2006.
His career spanned decades, including roles as Chairman of the Kano State Football Association, Executive Chairman of the Kano State Sports Council, 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, and Commissioner for Social Welfare, Youth and Sports in Kano State.
He also contributed nationally as a member of the Presidential Monitoring Committee for stadia development ahead of the FIFA World Youth Championship.
Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Gusau described Galadima as a mentor and a figure of dignity and integrity.
‘This is another one that hit us hard. Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima was a mentor to so many of us who are in various leadership positions in Nigeria sports today. He was the epitome of high dignity, diligence and integrity. We will miss his fatherly advice and words of wisdom dearly,’ Gusau said.
Born on June 14, 1951, in Kano, Galadima dedicated his life to sports and public service, holding numerous leadership positions at state and national levels. His influence extended beyond football, shaping youth and sports development across Nigeria.
Galadima will be buried on Sunday, April 19, 2026, in accordance with Islamic rites, with funeral prayers scheduled at Fagge Juma’at Mosque in Kano at 10 a.m.
