Iheanacho returns to Seville, gets five games to avoid ending 2024 without a goal in the league
Kelechi Iheanacho has returned to Seville after his underwhelming performance for the Super Eagles in their two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic and the Amavubi of Rwanda.
The 28-year-old failed to score in the two games and has now ended 2024 without scoring a goal for the Super Eagles.
The former Leicester City man is also in danger of not scoring a goal in the league in the 2024 calendar year.
The Nigerian scored his first goals of 2024 in Sevilla’s 3-0 defeat of lower league side, Las Rozas in the Copa del Rey at the end of October. That was one year after he last scored across all competitions.
Now, he will be looking to end his goal drought in the league since he scored for Leicester City in their 3-1 defeat of Swansea City in October 2023.
Iheanacho has featured in 11 games in the league since then viz four in the Sky Bet Championship and seven in the LaLiga.
He has five games left to end setting an unwanted record and he will be hoping he can score this weekend at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán where they will host Rayo Vallecano.
If he does not score, he will look to do it when Sevilla also host Osasuna or travel to Madrid to face Atletico Madrid.
Another home game, this time against Celta Vigo can offer the Nigerian that chance but if all fails, then he can choose one of the biggest clubs in Spain, Real Madrid to score his first league goal and end 2024 with a big statement ahead the second half of the LaLiga season.
