Galatasaray Halt Lookman Talks Over €40m Fee and Salary Demands

Galatasaray have put the brakes on their pursuit of Ademola Lookman after negotiations with Atalanta and the player’s representatives stalled over financial demands.

According to Türkiye Gazetesi, the Turkish champions had opened talks with the Serie A club about a possible deal for the Nigerian forward, but the figures involved quickly proved prohibitive.

Atalanta are said to have placed a €40 million price tag on the 28-year-old, while Lookman himself reportedly asked for a salary package worth €9 million per year.

A source quoted by Türkiye Gazetesi explained, ‘Galatasaray were interested and made inquiries, but both the transfer fee and the player’s wage demands were considered excessive. For now, the talks have been suspended.’

The Istanbul giants had hoped to add Lookman’s pace and creativity to their attacking options, but the financial gap has left the deal in limbo.

The report adds that Galatasaray will continue to monitor the situation, though they are unwilling to meet the current demands.

Meanwhile, city rivals Fenerbahçe have also been linked with the Super Eagles star, who is currently in Morocco representing Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.

His performances at the tournament have kept him firmly in the spotlight, but his future at Atalanta remains uncertain as the Italian club weigh their options.
