Hearn: Joshua Waiting for Signed Deal Before Facing Fury

Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has moved to clarify his fighter’s stance following Tyson Fury’s public callout at Tottenham Stadium on Saturday night.

Fury, returning to the ring after a 16-month layoff, dominated Arslanbek Makhmudov to a wide unanimous decision before turning his attention to Joshua, urging him to step into the ring for a face‑off.

Joshua, however, declined to enter the ropes, responding from ringside instead.

The decision sparked debate among fans, but Hearn insisted Joshua’s refusal was a matter of principle, stressing that no formal agreement exists for the fight.

‘How many times have we been here before? Years and years, and it’s never happened. Until I see you on the other side of the ring, it’s all hype,’ Hearn told Pro Boxing Fans.

He explained that Joshua is waiting for a signed contract before engaging in promotional theatrics, citing past failed negotiations.

Hearn also dismissed Fury’s claim that Joshua is ‘terrified’ of the matchup, backing his fighter to prevail if the bout is finalized.

‘Terrified of what? Tonight? Even Fury fans don’t feel the same energy. They know. I see nothing but an AJ victory,’ he said.

The promoter emphasized that Joshua’s position is rooted in confidence and patience, not avoidance.

‘AJ is simply saying: ‘Look, you need me. You’re calling me, and you’re going to get me.’ Very confident the fight will happen. But for now, nothing is signed,’ Hearn added.
