Awoniyi Becomes 9th All-Time Super Eagles EPL Top Scorer, Hails Forest’s Team Spirit

Taiwo Awoniyi hailed Nottingham Forest’s team spirit after scoring twice against Chelsea, insisting ‘Football is a team game. Everybody needs to be ready. It’s all about the team and it’s all about doing it for the team.’

The Nigerian forward struck his first Premier League brace since May 2023, also against Chelsea, and has now netted four goals in six meetings with the Blues, more than against any other opponent.

His double took him to 21 Premier League goals in 87 appearances, making him the 11th Super Eagles player to reach the 20-goal mark in the competition and the ninth top scorer.

Awoniyi’s tally places him second among Nigerian scorers in the Premier League in the ongoing season, level with Samuel Chukwueze and Tolu Arokodare, and behind Alex Iwobi, who leads with 4 goas.

Reflecting on the achievement, Awoniyi praised Forest’s collective effort: ‘We came here with the mentality to win. The way we started the game was fantastic and I’m really happy for the team. Kudos to the manager and the staff. They’ve been amazing. I believe it’s going to be an amazing season for us.’
