Brentford Pays Tribute as Onyeka Departs

Brentford have confirmed the departure of midfielder Frank Onyeka, who has joined Coventry City on a permanent deal following a successful loan spell last season.

Onyeka signed for Brentford from Danish side Midtjylland in July 2021 and went on to make 87 appearances across all competitions. He was part of the squad from Brentford’s first Premier League campaign, contributing with his work rate and commitment even if he did not always secure a regular starting role.

Brentford’s director of football, Phil Giles, paid tribute to Onyeka’s time at the club, saying:

‘Frank has been with us since our first Premier League game and has always shown fantastic commitment, work rate and loyalty during his time here. Ultimately, he probably didn’t start as many games as he’d have liked, which is why the opportunity for him to move to Coventry made sense for all parties.

‘He made a big contribution to their promotion and has earned his chance at becoming a regular Premier League starter with them. Frank will always be welcome back at Brentford and we wish him well for next season with Coventry.’

Onyeka’s move comes after playing a key role in Coventry’s promotion push during his loan spell.

The Nigerian midfielder now looks set to establish himself as a consistent starter in the Premier League with his new club.
