Edun Rallies Nigerian Boxers Ahead of Ghana Exhibition Bout
President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF), Hon. Wale Edun, has urged Nigerian boxers to uphold national pride as they prepare for an exhibition contest against Ghana in Accra.
Edun delivered the charge at the national camp in Lagos on Monday, encouraging the fighters to remain disciplined and focused.
‘Firstly, I want you all to be conscious of our national flag which you carry, you must do so with pride. The rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana has no exception. Despite being an exhibition bout, you must fight for the pride of our nation,’ he told the team.
A 17-man contingent, comprising boxers, coaches, and officials, will depart Lagos for Accra on Wednesday, May 6, via the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at 7:00 a.m.
The bilateral exhibition, scheduled for Thursday at the Accra Sports Stadium, is designed to assess the performance and readiness of athletes from both countries ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The contest is expected to rekindle the historic sporting rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana while serving as a crucial test of preparedness for the boxers on their path to international competition.
