Petit: Arsenal Cannot Match PSG’s Explosive Talent Ahead of Champions League Final
Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has warned that Arsenal face an uphill battle in the Champions League final against Paris Saint‑Germain, insisting the French champions are ‘too explosive’ for the Gunners to handle.
Petit, speaking to BoyleSports ahead of the clash, echoed the sentiments of fellow Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, who earlier claimed Mikel Arteta’s side are ‘not at the level’ of their opponents.
‘PSG and Bayern were the most impressive teams in the Champions League. They have a DNA of exciting football and scoring goals,’ Petit said.
‘Now PSG are in the final, we know they will be very explosive when you look at the talent they have on the pitch. I don’t think Arsenal can compete with the talent they have.’
Despite his concerns, Petit acknowledged Arsenal’s defensive strength could still make them contenders:
‘No one is better than Arsenal at defending, that makes them a contender for the final. It will be a different approach against PSG to the one Bayern took.’
The North London club are chasing their first European trophy, twenty years after their heartbreaking 2006 final defeat to Barcelona. But PSG, the reigning European champions, are aiming for back‑to‑back titles, with their ruthless attacking style making them heavy favourites.
Petit concluded that while Arsenal will enter the final as underdogs, their tactical discipline could yet frustrate PSG’s bid for consecutive triumphs.
