Owen: Arsenal Building Something Special Under Arteta

Premier League pundit Michael Owen has praised Arsenal’s progress under Mikel Arteta, describing the Gunners as ‘an incredible team’ and highlighting their consistency in recent seasons.

Speaking after Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Burnley, Owen noted the significance of the victory despite a less-than-convincing performance.

‘Tonight wasn’t convincing, Arsenal have been convincing all season but they weren’t tonight. They’ll need to step it up at Crystal Palace on Sunday, but there’s no getting away from it – this was an important win,’ he said.

Owen emphasised the quality of Arteta’s squad and the patience of supporters who have waited over two decades for a Premier League title.

‘They’re a seriously talented group. This is a hard league to win, they’ve done unbelievably well, getting closer and closer. Last season second again, a Champions League semi-final. That is brilliant!

‘This year again, they’re going to come first or second, another step up into the final of the Champions League. Those people who’ve kept their belief deserve a lot of credit. This manager is a very, very good one and he’s building something special.’

Arteta’s achievements have now matched those of legendary former manager Arsène Wenger in one key metric.

Arsenal have won 25 or more Premier League games in three of the last four seasons (26 in 2022/23, 28 in 2023/24, 25 in 2025/26), equalling Wenger’s record of three such campaigns (26 in 2001/02, 26 in 2003/04, 25 in 2004/05).

Owen himself enjoyed a glittering Premier League career, making 326 appearances, scoring 150 goals, and providing 31 assists. He was also a the Premier League winner.
