Nigeria, Zimbabwe Renew Rivalry in London Unity Cup Opener
The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Monday evening held their official training session at Charlton Athletic Stadium, popularly known as The Valley, ahead of Tuesday’s 2026 Unity Cup opener against the Warriors of Zimbabwe.
A total of 20 players participated in the session under the guidance of Head Coach Eric Chelle.
The squad included goalkeepers Francis Uzoho, Arthur Okonkwo, and Michael Atata; defenders Igoh Ogbu, Chibueze Oputa, Chibuike Nwaiwu, Obinna Igboke, Tijani Al Ameen, and Elias Ochobi; midfielders Alhassan Yusuf, Tochukwu Nnadi, Samson Tijani, Aderemi Adeoye, Junior Ayobami, and Tosin Oyedokun; as well as forwards Terem Moffi, Philip Otele, Rafiu Durosinmi, Owen Oseni, and Femi Azeez.
The Eagles and the Warriors are familiar foes, having battled to 1-1 draws in both legs of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying group.
The first encounter was hosted by Zimbabwe in Huye, Rwanda, while Nigeria hosted the return leg in Uyo.
Tuesday’s clash promises fireworks as the two African sides renew their rivalry in London. The fixture precedes Wednesday’s encounter between Jamaica and India, the two other teams participating in the Unity Cup.
