NDLEA and Chioma Ajunwa Foundation Unite for World Drug Day Football Match
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Directorate of SeaPorts Operations, in collaboration with the Chioma Ajunwa Foundation, will host a novelty football match to commemorate the United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, popularly known as World Drug Day.
The match, scheduled for Thursday, June 25, 2026, will feature the NDLEA WADA Male Team against the Olympian Chioma Ajunwa Veteran Female Team. Kick-off is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Police College Field, Ikeja, Lagos.
This initiative underscores the NDLEA’s commitment to raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, while also promoting healthy lifestyles through sports.
The involvement of Olympian Chioma Ajunwa, Nigeria’s first and only individual Olympic gold medalist, adds historic significance to the event.
Ajunwa made history at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games, leaping 7.12 meters on her very first attempt to clinch the long jump gold medal. Her record-breaking feat remains one of Africa’s most iconic sporting achievements.
She is also the first Nigerian to win medals at both the Olympics and the World Indoor Championships.
The novelty match promises to be both entertaining and symbolic, bringing together law enforcement officers and sports veterans in a united stand against drug abuse.
