Iheanacho on Target as Midtjylland Edge Lillestrøm

Nigerian forward Stanley Iheanacho was the match-winner for FC Midtjylland as the Danish Superliga side defeated Norwegian outfit Lillestrøm SK 1-0 in their first pre-season friendly of the summer.

Played on the hybrid pitch at Herning Fremad, the contest offered Midtjylland a valuable opportunity to shake off the rust after the off-season break.

Czech right-back Adam Gabriel was heavily involved in the build-up to the decisive goal, which Iheanacho converted with composure to seal victory for the Wolves.

After the final whistle, Gabriel underlined the importance of such matches in preparing for the new campaign.

‘With these games, we get the opportunity to play against teams we don’t necessarily know. They have a different style of play, but it’s also about us getting minutes in our legs in addition to daily training,’ he explained.

For Iheanacho, the goal was a timely reminder of his potential as Midtjylland look to sharpen their attack ahead of the new season.

The 21-year-old Nigerian’s strike ensured the Wolves began their summer programme on a winning note, with more friendlies to come as preparations intensify.
