Arop Storms to 1:41.84 World Lead in Paris, Targets Rudisha’s World Record

Canadian middle-distance runner Marco Arop delivered a commanding performance in the men’s 800m at the Paris Diamond league meet, clocking 1:41.84 to secure victory and set the world lead for the season.

Speaking after the race, Arop praised the flawless execution of the event: ‘It was incredible, we were able to execute it almost perfectly: world lead, the pacer was amazing, the crowd showed up and the atmosphere was amazing. I just wanted to do my part and run the race well.’

Despite still recovering from injury, Arop’s form suggests he is entering peak condition. He admitted that racing from the front leaves him unaware of the chase behind, but emphasized his focus on rhythm and time: ‘Every time I go in the front I don’t know what is happening behind me. I try not to think about it in the race, it’s just me, the track and the time.’

With confidence building, Arop hinted at a potential assault on the world record of 1:40.91, set by David Rudisha at the 2012 London Olympics.

‘I know I am in really good shape now, but if I can fine-tune for the rest of the season I might be able to break the world record this year. Where doesn’t matter, wherever I am healthy and 100%, I would love to do it.’
