Blue Is Not My Colour: Xhaka Rejects Chelsea, Commits Future to Sunderland

Granit Xhaka has confirmed he will remain at Sunderland despite strong interest from Chelsea, ending speculation about a potential summer transfer.

The Swiss international, currently at the World Cup with his national team, was the subject of an £8 million bid from Chelsea as the Blues sought to lure him to West London under Xabi Alonso’s new project.

Sunderland rejected the offer, and despite reports suggesting Xhaka was keen on the move, the midfielder has now made clear his commitment to the Black Cats.

Sunderland hinted at the decision earlier this week with a social media post referencing the popular ‘We’ve got Granit Xhaka’ chant sung by supporters, which the player himself shared on his channels.

Speaking publicly, Xhaka confirmed his future lies firmly on Wearside.

‘Sunderland has been my home since day one. We are all very happy,’ he said. ‘I decided to stay where I am; family is the most important thing. I am ready to make history with them.’

Reflecting on his World Cup campaign, Xhaka added: ‘I keep getting better as time goes on. I have a wealth of experience, with my teammates, my coaches, and the support of my loved ones. All of that makes me happy.’

Xhaka was pivotal last season as Sunderland finished seventh in the Premier League, becoming only the fifth promoted club to qualify for Europe through league position in their first season back in the top flight.

He will aim to replicate that success in the new campaign, while Chelsea continue their search for European football.
