Falconets Battle England for FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Quarter-Final Ticket

Nigeria’s Falconets will battle England’s Young Lionesses on Thursday for a place in the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup at the Stadion Miejski in Bielsko-Biała, Poland.

The Falconets enter the knockout stage on the back of a record-breaking 10-1 demolition of New Caledonia in their final Group F match.

Moses Aduku’s side finished second in the group behind Spain after opening their campaign with a 0-2 defeat to the European side before playing out a goalless draw with China PR.

The emphatic victory over New Caledonia, however, secured Nigeria’s passage into the last 16, with Winner Onajite David scoring a hat-trick and Ramotalahi Kareem also getting on the scoresheet.

SL Benfica forward Janet Akekoromowei was among the Falconets’ standout performers in the rout and will again be one of the attacking players Nigeria will look towards against England.

The Young Lionesses reached the knockout phase after finishing third in Group B behind Brazil.

England drew 1-1 with Canada in their opening game, thrashed Tanzania 5-1 and then lost 1-2 to Brazil in their final group fixture.

They finished above Canada on goals scored after both teams ended the group stage level on points.

Thursday’s encounter will send the winner into the quarter-finals, where they will face either hosts Poland or Colombia.
