Stunning, Historic Collapse! Brighton Destroy Man United’s Carabao Cup Hopes

Manchester United suffered a stunning 3-2 defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford on Wednesday, crashing out of the Carabao Cup in the first round for a second straight season.

United raced into a 2-0 lead inside nine minutes through debutant Lacey and Mason Mount, but Brighton produced a remarkable comeback.

Kostoulas pulled one back in first-half stoppage time before Pascal Gross equalised in the 65th minute. Four minutes later, De Cuyper completed the turnaround after a brilliant run and cross from Diego Gomez.

The defeat was historic for United. It was their first loss at Old Trafford after leading by two goals since September 1976.

United had won 143 of their previous 145 home matches in which they had led 2-0.

Jason Steele then denied Marcus Rashford late on as Brighton held on for a memorable victory.

The result adds to the pressure on Michael Carrick, with United again suffering an early Carabao Cup exit and being booed off at full time.
