NBBF Electoral Committee Disqualifies Bakare, Gives Igoche Mark Monday Deadline

The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Electoral Committee has disqualified Ayo Bakare from the presidential race over late submission of his nomination documents, while giving fellow aspirant Igoche Mark until Monday to submit his missing tax clearance certificate.
Committee chairman Dr Lanre Glover announced the decisions during a press briefing in Abuja following the screening of five aspirants ahead of the NBBF elective congress scheduled for October 15.
Glover said Oyedeji Olumide Joshua, Abdullahi Mustafa and Ugwaja Ejike Ugboaja had met all the requirements and were cleared to contest the presidency.
Mark, however, received conditional clearance after the committee discovered that his tax clearance certificate was missing. He was given until Monday to provide the document or risk disqualification.
According to Glover, Bakare submitted all the required documents but missed the deadline set by the committee for the submission of nomination forms.
The deadline was 2pm on Thursday, October 8, but Bakare’s submission arrived at 2:22pm, 22 minutes after the cut-off time.
Glover said the deadline had been declared sacrosanct, leaving the committee with no option but to disqualify the former aspirant.
Of the five aspirants who submitted nomination forms for the presidency, three have been fully cleared, Mark remains subject to the submission of his tax documents, while Bakare has been disqualified.
The screening exercise forms part of preparations for the October 15 elective congress in Abuja, which will usher in a new NBBF board for the 2026–2030 term.
Elections for technical representatives, players’ representatives and other affiliate bodies are scheduled to take place in Abuja between October 7 and 14.
