NBBF Releases Electoral Guidelines, Timelines For October 15 Poll

The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has released the guidelines, timelines and modalities for its 2026 Executive Board elections, scheduled to hold on October 15 in Abuja.

The electoral process was approved at the federation’s Extraordinary Congress held on September 26 in Yola, Adamawa State, which also constituted a seven-member Electoral Committee headed by Dr Lanre Glover and a three-member Appeals Committee.

The elections will be witnessed by representatives of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and National Sports Commission (NSC).

In accordance with Article 21 of the NBBF Statutes 2019, the Executive Board will comprise the president, vice-president, six zonal members and representatives of the Referees and Coaches Association, players’ union, military/paramilitary, corporate sponsors, continental/international boards, NAWIS and NAPHER.

The electoral timetable provides for the collection of nomination forms on September 27, with completed forms to be returned between October 6 and 7.

Screening and clearance of candidates will take place on October 8 and 9, with the names of cleared candidates to be released thereafter.

Elections into other affiliate bodies are scheduled to take place between October 7 and 14, while the players’ representative will be elected on October 12 and the technical representative on October 13.

Candidates wishing to appeal decisions of the Electoral Committee must submit their appeals on October 13. The Appeals Committee will hear the appeals and release its final decisions on October 14, a day before the elective congress.

The 2026 NBBF Elective Congress will hold on October 15 in Abuja.
