Carrick To Remain Man United Boss For Chelsea Clash

Under-pressure manager survives showdown talks as United delay decision on permanent successor

Michael Carrick will remain in charge of Manchester United for their Premier League trip to Chelsea on October 31 despite mounting pressure following a disappointing run of results.

According to reports, United have decided to retain the former midfielder for at least the Stamford Bridge encounter after discussions between Carrick and club officials.

The decision comes after United suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth over the weekend, extending their winless run across all competitions to eight matches and intensifying scrutiny of Carrick’s position at Old Trafford.

Despite the growing uncertainty surrounding his future, the club are reportedly unwilling to make an immediate managerial appointment before the Chelsea fixture.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe and Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann have emerged as leading candidates to replace Carrick permanently should United decide to make a change.

Howe is reportedly open to discussing the possibility of taking charge at Old Trafford, although United would face a compensation fee of around £6 million to secure his services from Newcastle.

However, neither candidate is expected to be appointed at such short notice, with United set to reassess the managerial situation after the Chelsea game.

Following the trip to Stamford Bridge, United have two home fixtures before the November international break, against Aston Villa and AS Roma.

Carrick’s immediate task is therefore to halt the disappointing run of results and strengthen his position ahead of what could prove a decisive period for his future at the club.
