Abdullahi Brace Seals Unity Cup Glory for Nigeria

Nigeria retained the Unity Cup, with a commanding 3-0 victory over Jamaica at The Valley.

USA-based midfielder Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi was the star of the show, scoring twice to cap a brilliant tournament.

Stand-in captain Terem Moffi added the second goal in-between Abdullahi’s brace, ensuring despair for Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz in front of their passionate supporters in south-east London.

Abdullahi opened the scoring in the 4th minute, reacting quickest after goalkeeper Coniah Boyce-Clarke parried a long throw from Kenneth Igboke.

The early breakthrough mirrored Nigeria’s semi-final against Zimbabwe, setting the tone for a dominant performance.

Coach Eric Chelle made just one change from the side that defeated Zimbabwe, introducing Rafiu Durosinmi for Philip Otele.

The Super Eagles maintained their rhythm and discipline, with goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo making a comfortable save from Kaheim Dixon’s cross in the 8th minute.

Nigeria continued to threaten, with Durosinmi and Femi Azeez combining well before Moffi doubled the lead in the second half, heading home Azeez’s precise delivery.

As Jamaica pressed forward, Clarke denied Azeez from a free-kick, but Nigeria’s relentless energy paid off in stoppage time.

Substitute Otele dispossessed Jamaica in midfield and set up Abdullahi, whose angled strike sealed a comprehensive win.

The victory means Nigeria successfully defended their Unity Cup title, reaffirming their dominance in the Afro-Caribbean competition. Next, the Super Eagles travel to Warsaw for a friendly against Poland at the PGE Narodowy Stadium on June 3.
