AC Milan coach Pioli: We won’t change for Osimhen’s impending return

Nigerian seeking to score first goal in three games vs the Rossoneri

AC Milan coach, Stefano Pioli says his side are not scared of Victor Osimhen and he will not change the Rossoneri’s approach because of the returning Nigerian.

Osimhen was missing in Napoli’s last two games against AC Milan.

He missed the 4-0 defeat at home at the Armando Maradona stadium in the Serie A early April and the 1-0 loss in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal clash last week at the San Siro.

The Nigerian has scored 25 goals in 30 games across all competitions for Napoli this season with 21 of the goals scored in 24 Serie A games.

The 24 year old has netted 53 goals and bagged 14 assists in 92 games since he joined Napoli in September 2020 but none of the goals and the assists has come in the two matches he has featured against the Rossoneri.

Pioli is confident his side can make it three games without a goal involvement by the Nigerian.

‘He is such a powerful, impressive and decisive striker, so we take his characteristics into account, but at the same time we have our own way of playing
football and we won’t move away from that.

‘We saw with previous Napoli games that a lot of it is about knowing the moment to slow down and speed up, and that
is even more crucial with a player like Osimhen.’

The Rossoneri won the first leg 1-0 at San Siro thanks to a goal from Ismael Bennacer, but as the away goals rule no longer applies, they will go to extra
time if the tie is level on aggregate.
