AFCON 2023: Moses Simon backs Victor Osimhen to rediscover scoring touch

Moses Simon has backed striker Victor Osimhen to rediscover his scoring touch, despite firing blanks in recent matches.

The Napoli forward has managed an assist and a goal in the five matches played at Afcon, despite the numerous chances that come his way. However, according
to Simon, that is not a major concern for the deadly striker.

“The atmosphere is good in the team. Osimhen is thinking about winning, not just scoring. If he gets a chance to score he will take it, but he’s focused on
the team victory first.”

Osimhen twice went close in the first half against Angola with headers, the first when he got on the end of Moses Simon’s cross but could only guide this
effort into the goalkeeper’s hands, then again when he nodded across goal after meeting Ola Aina’s long throw.

The Napoli forward has been the focus of attention following his incredible scoring record in the Serie A last term when he netted 26 times to image the top
scorer in the competition and in the process becomes the first African to do so in the history of the Italian topflight.

The 25 year old also emerged the top scorer with 10 goals in the qualifiers for the tournament and was voted African player of the year.
