Ahmed Musa plays down Mo Salah threat ahead of AFCON face-off

Says Egypt have Salah, Nigeria have Samuel Chukwueze

Super Eagles captain Ahme Musa has played down the threat of Mohammed Salah ahead of the heavyweight Group D clash between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Egypt on January 11.

Salah has been in imperious form for Liverpool so far during the 2021/22 season. The 29-year-old leads the Premier League top-scorers chart after netting 16 goals in 20 games.

He has also scored as many as 23 goals in just 29 games across all competitions for the Reds this season and is regarded as one of the best players in the world on current form.

But speaking in Tuesday’s press conference on NFF TV, Musa said: “Everyone is talking about Salah but if you look at our team, we have lots of players they will be worried about.

“So, we don’t have to think about Salah, they have to think about our own players. They talk about Salah but we have players like Samuel Chukwueze and others on the wings who are very dangerous, so that’s football.“

On how supportive he would be for the team even if he does not get regular playing time as has been the case in recent time: ”Everyone knows me, even when we qualified for the 2018 World Cup, most of the qualifiers, I didn’t play.

“But from the bench, you could see the support I was giving the players. So for me, it is just to back the team no matter what. Whether I play or not, it doesn’t bother me because I know with my support, we can go places.”
