Morocco Equals Nigeria at No. 5 In FIFA Rankings

African champions Morocco have equalled Nigeria’s historic feat by climbing to fifth in the latest FIFA world rankings following their 2-0 victory over Gabon in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers on Friday.

The win lifted Morocco’s points tally to 1,806.87, allowing them to overtake Brazil, who dropped to sixth with 1,802.90 points after their 1-1 draw with Australia.

Spain remain top of the live FIFA rankings, with Argentina second, while France moved up to third after beating Turkey. England dropped to fourth ahead of their clash with Spain on Saturday.

The positions could still change when the remaining international-window matches are completed.

Morocco’s rise to fifth is particularly significant in African football history, as they have now become only the second African nation to reach that position.

Nigeria were the first, achieving a historic fifth-place ranking in 1994. The Super Eagles had remained the only African team to reach No. 5 in the FIFA rankings until Morocco’s surge on Friday.

Morocco’s latest rise was powered by their AFCON qualifying victory over Gabon, combined with Brazil’s dropped points against Australia.
