All eyes on Adeleke, Alfred at Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Florida

University of Texas duo of Rhasidat Adeleke and Julien Alfred will be the cynosure of all eyes Friday at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational meeting where they will make their individual debuts.

Adeleke and Alfred transferred their incredible form to the outdoor season and helped University of Texas break three collegiate records at the Texas Relays.

The University’s relay teams with the two involved broke the 4×100 record (42.00), the 4×200 record (1:28.05) and the sprint medley relay record (3:36.10).

Adeleke also ran the anchor leg of the school’s 4x400m team that ran 3:32.27 to win the Sanya Richards Ross 4×400 relay.

Indoors, both Adeleke and Alfred also set new lifetime bests.

The Irish-Nigerian ran 22.52 and 50.33 in the 200m and 400m respectively to set new lifetime bests and Irish records indoors while Alfred was devastating, blowing the field away to win the 60m and 200m ttiles at the NCAA Indoor Championships in New Mexico last month.

The Saint Lucia sprinter ran 6.94 in the 60m, the joint fastest in 2023 and number two in the all-time list while his 22.01 run in the half lap is the second fastest of all time and fastest in 2023.

The whole world will be waiting to see if they are going to go on another record-setting spree.

Adeleke holds a 22.59 and 50.53 best outdoors while Alfred has broken 11 seconds in the 100m (10.81) and has ran 22.46 in the 200m.

Both are in the opening 200m heats at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic 2023.
