Aribo bags first Europa League assist in 24 games
Osimhen fires blank for the first time for Napoli in Europa League this season
Joe Aribo was in good form as he bagged an assist in Rangers’ shock Europa League win against Borussia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, Germany.
The 25 year old Nigeria international who started his sixth game in seven appearances for the Gers this season provided the assist, a near post flick for Alfredo Morelos to finish off for the visitors’ second of four goals in the 4-2 win.
It was Aribo’s first ever assist since he made his debut in the competition, playing for just eight minutes in Rangers’ 1-0 defeat of Feyenoord at the Ibrox Stadium in September 2019.
Aribo has scored just twice in 24 appearances in the competition.
Also in action Thursday evening was Calvin Bassey, the Rangers defender who has switched his international allegiance to Nigeria.
Bassey was on from the start for his fourth start in six games in the competition and 27th start in 29 games for Rangers in all competitions so far this season.
The third Nigerian at the club, Leon Balogun is still out injured and was thus not listed for the game.
At the Camp Nou, Victor Osimhen failed to make it five goals in four Europa League appearances for Napoli this season.
The 23 year old forward was effectively caged for the 80 minutes he was on the field as Barcelona forced their guest to a 1-1 draw.
