Atalanta CEO, Percassi gives two conditions for Lookman exit
The future of Nigerian international Ademola Lookman at Atalanta BC has taken a dramatic turn following confirmation from CEO Luca Percassi that the club is open to letting the winger leave—under two strict conditions.
Despite a €45 million offer from Inter Milan, including performance-based bonuses, Atalanta has rejected the move, holding firm on their pre-agreed stance with the player: any exit must be to a top-tier European club and must take him outside Serie A. This policy effectively blocks Inter from acquiring the player, igniting frustration and public fallout.
Lookman, 27, responded with a powerful statement on Instagram, expressing his disappointment and accusing the club of mishandling the situation both professionally and personally. He has since lodged a formal transfer request, intensifying speculation around his future.
Speaking at the unveiling of new Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Sportiello, Percassi addressed the growing controversy.
‘Last year, after rejecting a €20 million bid from PSG, Lookman asked to be sold. We respected that, on the condition that he only moves to a top European club and never wears another Serie A shirt out of respect for his legacy at Atalanta,’ Percassi explained.
He added, ‘The situation has evolved, but decisions remain with the club. Atalanta has always acted with integrity and values the timing and trajectory of its players.’
With Lookman recently crowned African Player of the Year and at the peak of his career, the spotlight now intensifies on possible suitors beyond Italy’s borders. Clubs in the Premier League, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 are rumored to be monitoring the situation closely.
