Shaibu Confirms Edo’s Readiness for 2nd Niger Delta Games After Stadium Inspection
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Comrade Philip Shaibu, on Friday led a high-level inspection of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, declaring Edo State ready to host a successful edition of the forthcoming 2nd Niger Delta Games.
Shaibu was joined by the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Desmond Amadin Enabulele, and Executive Director Mrs. Sabina Chikere, as the team assessed athletics tracks, football turfs, tennis courts, and spectator stands.
Walking along the tartan tracks of the main bowl, Shaibu expressed satisfaction with the facilities, describing the stadium as ‘one of the finest sporting arenas in the country.’
The inspection covered security arrangements, athlete access routes, and spectator convenience. At the tennis courts, Shaibu commended the ‘maintenance culture evident in the pristine courts and organized seating areas.’
Speaking during the tour, Shaibu stressed the importance of sustaining sports infrastructure to international standards.
‘What we have seen here today reflects commitment. Edo State has once again demonstrated leadership in sports development. The facilities are in excellent condition, and with the level of preparation on ground, the NDDC Games will be a huge success,’ he said.
Hon. Enabulele reaffirmed the state government’s resolve to ensure seamless hosting, noting collaboration with stakeholders. Mrs. Chikere emphasized athlete welfare and logistics coordination, adding that technical readiness was a priority.
