Basketmouth Headlines SuperSport’s Bold New FIFA World Cup Morning Show

Nigerian comedy powerhouse Basketmouth is set to wake up Africa every morning during the FIFA World Cup as SuperSport launches The Morning Cup, a no-holds-barred daily breakfast show premiering on 11 June.
The show promises a vibrant mix of football, culture, music, and unapologetic banter, anchored by SuperSport presenters Lwazi Ziqubu and Fiso Mazibuko. Joining them is a star-studded pan-African cast: South African broadcast legend Phat Joe, Kenyan actress Sarah Hassan, and Egyptian-Jamaican sports presenter Sirayah Shiraz.
Basketmouth, known for his razor-sharp wit, is expected to bring comedic fire to the desk, setting the tone for a show that collides lifestyle and football in a way never seen before. His presence alongside Phat Joe ensures viewers can expect sparks, laughter, and plenty of playful rivalry.
Earlier today, the cast teased the launch with a cross-continental radio takeover. Basketmouth commanded Nigeria’s Brila FM morning commute while Phat Joe brought his trademark edge to Anele’s breakfast show on 947 in South Africa. The stunt gave fans a taste of the banter and chemistry that will define The Morning Cup.
Phat Joe, making a triumphant return to continental television, quipped:
‘Anytime you get a call from SuperSport to do a show for a billion people, you answer. But when it’s a brand-new format with a pan-African cast? That’s not just a gig, it’s something special.’
Kenya’s Sarah Hassan added glamour and heartfelt fandom, declaring her support for South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in the absence of her home team.
‘It’s a dream come true to be part of a truly African morning show at such an exciting time for football,’ she said.
Set against a communal and inviting backdrop, The Morning Cup will feature football icons, round-table debates, comedy inserts, fashion segments, and on-the-ground coverage from across Africa and the United States.
Fans can tune in daily from 10 June at 07:00-08:00 CAT on SuperSport’s FIFA World Cup Central channel (DStv channel 203; Nigeria, DStv channel 223), with replays and on-demand viewing available on DStv Stream, GOtv, and GOtv Stream.
