Breaking: Adeshina ends Tom Jones Invitational high jump campaign with 1.79m

Nigeria high jump record holder ended her campaign in the high jump event with a 1.79m clearance.

The 25 year old who set a new 1.96m Nigeria record in January has hit the 1.90m mark twice and 1.91m once since then with her latest jump before Saturday’s afternoon’s performance being the 1.87m she clearedin Austin, Texas at the end of January.

On Saturday at the Percy Beard stadium in Gainesville, Florida, Adeshina failed to clear 1.84m and could thus dropping out of the competition.

Many Nigerians are hoping Adeshina will make history as the first Nigerian woman to hit the 2m mark in the event.

Meanwhile, in the women’s 100m event, Rosemary Chukwuma ran 11.12 to finish third in the first heat and jump to the top of the queue as the fastest Nigerian so far in the event tis season, supplanting Olajide Olayinka who ran 11.19 to win the African Games trials in Asaba, Delta state.

Tima Godbless ran 11.33 to finish second in the second heat while Success Umukoro sped to an 11.43 finish to win the third heat.
