Brendan Rodgers hopes to have Wilfred Ndidi back for Liverpool game

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is hoping Nigerian international midfielder Wilfred Ndidi recovers from the tight harmstring trouble that made him watch the Foxes’ 6-3 drubbing at Manchester City from the substitute bench.

Ndidi missed what would have been his 159th Premier League game since he joined the King Power outfit in January 2017 and Rodgers will be delighted if his talismanic midfielder recovers to face the Reds in an uphill task at the King Power stadium Tuesday night.

‘We couldn’t risk Ndidi against Man City ,he had harmstring issues so we had to put him on the bench ,but we knew we weren’t really going to be able to use him. It was too big a risk.

”Ndidi has played a lot of football for us and hasn’t had chance to rest. His harmstring was tight,’ said Rodgers who hopes the 25 year old would recover on time for the Liverpool game Tuesday night.

Ndidi has started all 12 games he has featured him so far this year and has missed seven others.

If he starts tonight it will be his ninth Premier League appearance against Liverpool with the former RC Genk of Belgium player winning just two and lost five of his past eight encounters.

His only goal involvement against Jurgen Klopp’s side came last season in the Foxes’ 3-1 win last February when he provided the assist for Harvey Barnes to score the third goal in the 85th minute of the encounter.

The Nigeria international will be hoping to be fit and for lightning to strike twice as he seeks his 70th win in the Premier League.
