Camacho-Quinn warns Amusan, Others: ‘I still got things to improve on!’
Reigning Olympic 100m hurdles champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn has admitted she felt she was not ready for the 2024 outdoor season before she stormed to a 12.45 win in the opening leg of the 2024 Diamond League meetings in Xiamen, China last week.
The Puerto Rican expects to get better as she continues her preparations for the summer Olympics in Paris where she will be aiming to become the first woman to successfully defend an Olympics 100m hurdles title.
The 27 year old has been one of the dominant figures in the event since she set the 12.26 Olympics record on her way to winning the title in Tokyo and will be in action on Saturday in Suzhou for the round of two of the clash of champions after she hurdled Tobi Amusan, a former world champion and record holder, Danielle Williams, the reigning world champion and Deynne Charlton, the reigning world indoor champion and world record holder.
‘I still got things to improve on,’ said Camacho-Quinn. ‘Before I was telling coach, ‘I don’t think I’m ready,’ but 12.4, knowing it wasn’t even a clean race? I’m ready to go back and fix what I need to do,’ Camacho-Quinn said after winning in Xiamen.
Interestingly, Camacho-Quinn holds the best head to head record against the major rivals she will contend with in Suzhou.
She is 13-7 against Amusan, 11-4 against Willains and 16-1 against Charlton.
It looks as if the Puerto Rican will take some stopping on Saturday if she’s cleaned up those technical imperfections, but in an event as loaded as this, she will have to be near her best to stay on top.
